Duffy Role Model Assembly

Yesterday we were treated to a visit from Scott Tulloch an author and illustrator as part of our Duffy assembly.
Scott began by showing us a clip of himself reading one of his own books 'I am not a worm!'  This was hugely entertaining for us!
He talked to us about how he was inspired as a child by the Asterix books and showed us a selection of his drawings that he had done over the years. Scott explained how he had experimented with different materials and techniques, and it was through practice that his drawings got more realistic.
To finish with, Scott borrowed Ms Nicholls as his subject to show us how to create a 'realistic' drawing. As you can see by the photos, his drawing was far from realistic and was more about making us giggle!

Keeping Bromley Beautiful

This week is Keep NZ Beautiful Week, so we at Bromley School are working as a team to help beautify our school.
As yesterday afternoon was so lovely and sunny, Room 3 decided to tackle some of the garden areas at the entrance near the fruit shed.
We had a lot of fun pulling out weeds, picking up litter and sweeping. Some of us even began to wash down the chairs from our classroom.

Fantastic Friday

Wow what an awesome day we had today! First we hosted assembly and did an amazing job up on the stage. Miss Powell even managed to snap a couple of photos.

Thank you to all the whanau who made it today. What an awesome turn out we had. We played the video that our ICT buddies helped us make. That video is now up on youtube for your viewing pleasure.

After lunch it was time for a treat! We've been working hard all term to fill up the bead jar and last week we finally did it! All we wanted was free time and we even got to have an ice cream! We had a great afternoon.

Something Special

Over the last few weeks we have been sharing a variety of things that are special to us. Some children have brought in special items to share with the class. Some of us have made a clay model of someone who is special to us. We have also made mosaics of places that are special to us. We've discussed our passion and what we enjoy doing and have used wire to show passions.

Peter Gossage Inspired Art

During Māori language week we got really into the Māori myths and legends written and illustrated by Peter Gossage. We particularly loved the art - the beautiful colours and swirling patterns.
We liked the way he decorated the faces of the characters in his books and wanted to have a go ourselves.

We looked at all the Maui books, In the beginning and Rona and the Moon for ideas.

First we sketched our ideas.

Next we transferred these designs onto larger paper and drew strong outlines with Sharpies. Once that was completed we used water paints (2-3 different colours) to fill in our paintings.

These came out looking super coll. They are on display in our cloakroom. Come check them out!

ICT Buddies

We have started working collaboratively with our buddies in Room 14. Every second Wednesday they bring their iPads down to Room 3 and teach us some some new skills.

We love having this special time with our buddies and we're learning heaps already. On Thursday mornings Wayne come in and works with groups of us reinforcing what our buddies have taught us.
