Puppet Workshop

What a fantastic afternoon Room 3 had today!  We were lucky enough to take part in an amazing Puppet Workshop at Free Theatre.  This was the result of a collaboration between Free Theatre Christchurch and The Whole House Reuse Project.  

When we arrived at the theatre, we were told about how the Reuse Project had come about after the earthquakes.  Rather than demolishing the red-zoned buildings, the project aims to take buildings apart piece by piece so that they can salvage the materials.  The materials that we used today were taken from one specific red-zoned house.

With the help of some hot glue, scissors, a drill, a staple gun and some fabulous volunteering adults and parent helpers; Room 3 let their creative juices run wild and set off making their puppets.

Once we had finished creating the puppets, the theatre experts talked to us about bringing our puppets to life.  We practised moving them in different ways and even giving them a voice before sharing them in a special puppet theatre.

Our incredible creations are going to become famous, as they will be displayed in an exhibition at the museum from the 5th of June to the 23rd of August.  We would love to be able to organise another trip to go and view our puppets on display!  Once this has ended, we will be able to take our puppets home.
